Proper diet- vegetarian is eating with awareness. Supplying the body with food that has most positive effect on the body and least negative effect on the environment. This is the proper fuel so that the car would need to operate.

Positive thinking and meditation. The practise of positive thinking and meditation gives increased clarity, improves concentration and brings peace of mind, which is beneficial to those with a hectic stressful life. Positive thinking helps remove habitual negative thought patterns, putting you more in control, leading to peace of mind in preparation for meditation. In the car metaphor this is the responsible driver, you drive the vehicle and choose which direction to go.

That is the theory.  In reality, no one can guarantee you perfect health even if you try to put every good health habit into practice.  Mostly, however, you get your just deserts.  As many medical researchers have shown, taking care of yourself reduces the risk of ill health. 

Everything in your body was once food.  Feed yourself junk and you cannot expect your body to stay in top running order.  Feed your body well and it is likely to last longer and work better. 

Of course there are exceptions.  Some people abuse their bodies and seem to suffer few ill-effects from the neglect.  There are also some people who drive their cars in a dangerous way without ever having an accident but it is not behaviour any sane person would recommend.  Yet some people use this same argument with health, perhaps quoting a friend who had drunk heavily, smoked and eaten a diet of junk food but lived to be 85!  Just as some idiotic drivers can be lucky, so can some people take risks with their health without suffering from any unfortunate consequences. Most can’t.  Generally, people who look after themselves live longer – and are healthier during their longer lives than those who do not. 

Food is an integral part of health.  It is the fuel for energy.  It provides the nutrients we need for growth and repair of body tissues.  And ultimately it controls every reaction of our complex body machinery.  It is also a social lubricant and a daily source of pleasure.  Depending on our choice of foods, we can satisfy some or all of these aspects of our health.

Surely an intelligent person would seek to look at the cause and try to find a way in which to relieve that trigger to disease?
